Bayern Munich’s brutal smashing of RB Leipzig saw the opening night of the Bundesliga get off to a cracking start. The flow in attack was such a joy to watch that words fall short to describe how good it feels to see Bayern so fluid again. Chief of the marauders in action today was striker Harry Kane. Bagging half the goals of the night, Kane’s performance was a reflection of the team as a whole. The Bayern no.9 was pleased with the result, the chemistry upfront and the confidence the squad takes
away from this big win.
Connection with the wingers

One of Bayern’s best player last season if not the best, Michael Olise was joined on the winger squad by Colombian Luis Diaz from Liverpool FC. With Kane up front, this trio looks extremely potent and that was on show today. With 6 goals between the three, the quality of shooting, passing and movement were top notch despite it being the first game of the league.
In the post game interview( as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Harry Kane commented on the link with his wingers. He said “I’ve played a year with Michael now and I feel the relationship is getting stronger and stronger. The first half he was outstanding, the goals he scored. And Lucho, it’s only been a few weeks but I feel like it’s been an instant connection, he got a couple of assists for me today.”
A shot in the arm for the locker room

Playing with new players and figuring out the overall feel of the team can take time after several changes to squad members and also positions. Gnabry was played centrally and credit to the man, he looked pretty good. Diaz was on the money and his confidence as rightly observed by the community is spilling over onto his teammates as well. The Diaz goal itself was preceded by four lightening quick passes. It was 5 ball actions in 6 seconds including the shot. The one-touch passing and movement was of the highest quality. Joshua Kimmich’s reaction to it was apt, he went crazy from what he saw. That was an unstoppable goal against any opposition in Europe.
Kane went on to underscore the importance of the victory beyond the scoreline and the goal difference. He said “It’s great for the boys, great for the confidence, but as we know it’s the whole team that are working and it’s a big performance”.
Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig locked horns for what was anticipated as a clash of titans to raise the curtain for the forthcoming Bundesliga season, but what followed was a massacre of Biblical proportions. Bayern had looked shaky in their last few outings, and Leipzig had a lot to prove after some big changes in the team, which meant that both teams, while possessing some massive talents, had chips on their shoulders and something to strive towards.
Helping us dissect the corpse left in Bayern’s wake is Rayyan (Cyler), returning to the pod after a lengthy hiatus to perform some semblance of autopsy, although it seems this game was far more about the pure joy of watching what happened than picking apart the details of what actually did happen. In this edition, we feature:-
- A run-down of the starting XI and shape of both teams.
- The series of events that led to the defining moments of the game, and patterns from before that re-emerged.
- Some final (giddy) thoughts of what this Bayern team could look like going forward.
- A lot, a lot, a lot, of uncontrollable giddy giggling at the mere thought of this match’s existence (sorry).
