Dear Roker Report,
Yes, we’re upset about losing to Port Vale in the cup and to have been been ninety minutes away from a Wembley semi-final, but let’s not beat ourselves up about it. It was a bad day at the office and we deserved what we got.
As the season moves into its latter stages, we must remember that it’s been a success regardless of future results.
In many experts’ eyes, we’ve overachieved with forty points before Easter and Premier League football for a second season almost assured.
Our success in the league
this season is mainly down to the recruitment in the summer, the chairman who backed the recruitment, the head coach that’s gelled his new squad and the players who perform week in and week out.
In other words, Sunderland have produced this season as a team.
During our second season in the Premier League, we must build further to cement a place in the top flight for years to come.
Haway the lads!
Mark
Dear Roker Report,
Time to snap out of it and get back into gear on Saturday.
Brighton are a good team but they aren’t unbeatable and we need to remember we’re a bloody good side too. The Mags’ game is on the horizon so everyone should be playing for their shirt.
I’d take Eliezer Mayenda out if Brian Brobbey’s fit, and see if we can get back to doing what was going well for us a few months ago.

Ed’s Note [Phil]: Hi, Mark and John. Thank you for your letters.
As shambolic as Sunday’s FA Cup loss to Port Vale undoubtedly was, Saturday’s visit of Brighton is an excellent opportunity for the Lads to get back to winning ways and take a big step towards the next target of fifty points — which is certainly achievable.
All told, it’s hard to argue that 2025/2026 has been anything other than a successful campaign and I hope the players are still as motivated to end the campaign strongly as they’ve been for the majority of the season. A win over the Seagulls would be very welcome and would set us up quite nicely for the trip to Newcastle.
Let’s hope they do the business on Saturday!
