Patrick Mahomes Named “AFC Offensive Player of the Week” | The Mothership
Mahomes was named the “AFC Offensive Player of the Week” on Wednesday after completing 22-of-30 passes for 257 yards and four total
touchdowns in Sunday night’s victory over the Detroit Lions. Mahomes, who also won the award following his performance in Week 4, has now done so twice in the last three weeks.
The veteran quarterback has thrown for 1,514 yards and 11 touchdowns so far this season while rushing for another 222 yards and four scores. In fact, Mahomes’ 15 total offensive touchdowns are the most of any player in the NFL through Week 6.
This marks Mahomes’ 12th career “Player of the Week” award, and now with a divisional matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders on deck, he’ll look to stack another strong performance this upcoming Sunday.

The Chiefs are big favorites here for a reason. They are getting the offense cranked up and will have Rashee Rice back to add to it. The Raiders have defensive issues, which Patrick Mahomes will use to his advantage. Geno Smith won’t keep up and will continue to turn it over. Chiefs big.
Week 7 NFL QB Power Rankings: Has Baker Mayfield taken the top spot? | CBS Sports
5 – Patrick Mahomes
Kansas City Chiefs QB
The Chiefs finally looked like themselves in Sunday’s rout of the Lions. And Mahomes was arguably the biggest reason why, setting the tone with tough scrambles, then spreading the ball all over the field to maximize K.C.’s gadget weapons.
Super Bowl odds: Bills, Eagles, Lions fall as Chiefs — inevitably? — rise | The Athletic
Buffalo’s recent inability to finish drives is concerning. Quarterback Josh Allen is no longer the MVP favorite at BetMGM after a string of average (for his standard) performances. The 4-0 start for the Bills came against teams with a combined 3-21 record. A bye week could not come at a better time for Buffalo to work through its recent struggles.
After an 0-2 start, the Kansas City Chiefs (+650) are trending upward very quickly. Kansas City leapfrogged NFC favorite Detroit into second overall in Super Bowl odds thanks to Sunday night’s win over the Lions. Sitting at +1400 after the Week 2 loss to Philadelphia, the Chiefs turned things around over the last month as the rest of the AFC’s elite started to fade.
2026 NFL mock draft: Reid’s predictions on first-round picks | ESPN
14. Kansas City Chiefs (3-3)
Jeremiyah Love, RB, Notre Dame*
The Chiefs have struggled to find a consistent playmaker in the running game, considering quarterback Patrick Mahomes is their leading rusher through six games (222 yards). That’s not sustainable. Love would give Kansas City a Jahmyr Gibbs-like player with his explosiveness, burst and make-you-miss ability. Like Gibbs, Love can also provide creativity as a pass-catching option out of the backfield.
The Chiefs vs. Lions earns massive ‘Sunday Night Football’ viewership | Chiefs Wire
According to a press release from NBC Sports, last Sunday’s Week 6 matchup averaged 27.3 million viewers across NBC and Peacock linear and streaming platforms, making it the second-most-watched October game in the history of the ‘Sunday Night Football’ franchise.
The Lions and Chiefs game trailed behind only the 28.4 million from Tom Brady’s game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, against his former team, the New England Patriots, in October 2021.
The game peaked at 30.6 million viewers in the second quarter, according to the network, saying it averaged more than 25 million viewers for ‘Sunday Night Football’ this season. This marks the best six-week streaming start ever, with an Average Minute Audience of 3.0 million viewers across Peacock and NBC Sports Digital platforms.

Jags eye bigger offensive role for Travis Hunter to exploit speed | ESPN
Head coach Liam Coen said Wednesday that they’re making it a priority to design and call more plays in which Hunter is the No. 1 option to take advantage of his speed and athleticism.
“Scheming him open is part of it, No. 1,” Coen said from The Grove resort, which is where the team is staying and practicing this week in London. “Our job as an offensive staff [is] to make sure we’re putting him in the progression and putting him in the position to be No. 1 [option] a little bit more often in some ways.
“And then when he is the primary [option], we’ve got to throw and catch. We’ve got to make sure that we identify it, find him, be able to be at the right spot at the right time. So, I think it’s a combination of a lot of those things that ultimately can all be controlled.”
Hunter had four catches for 15 yards, including a 14-yard catch-and-run, on seven targets in Sunday’s loss to Seattle. That’s his lowest yardage total of the season (previous low was 21 yards receiving in Week 3 against Houston).

Chiefs Roster: If this is Travis Kelce’s ‘Last Dance’, it’s legendary
Now 36 years old, the future first-ballot Hall of Fame tight end is looking as efficient as ever — and the Chiefs’ offense is thriving because of it.
Kelce led Kansas City with six receptions for 78 yards during Sunday night’s 30-17 win over the Detroit Lions. Three of those catches gained at least 15 yards. That might not sound like much, but it’s a far cry from last season, when Kelce didn’t have a single game with at least three receptions of 15 or more yards. He had four such games in 2023 — and five in 2022.
It’s not that Kelce was bad last year. He just wasn’t his usual explosive self. While it felt like an outlier season, there was no guarantee it would stay that way.
So coming into this season, there were legitimate questions about Kelce. Chiefs among them was his age. According to Pro Football Reference, Tony Gonzalez is the only NFL tight end at least 36 years old to record more than 600 receiving yards in a season.
