Newcastle United has already lost several foundational players during yet another chaotic summer, but the club appears determined to prevent Lewis Hall from becoming the next major name through the exit door.
Newcastle’s three best players from last season — Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon — all departed and left the Magpies trying to reshape their squad under new manager Matthias Jaissle.
Manchester United was a bit late to the party, but still linked with another Newcastle starter
in Hall for the last month or so, raising the possibility of another significant departure before the Sept. 1 deadline.
However, Sam C revealed on Thursday that in a move to prevent the player from forcing his way out, Newcastle has now opened discussions with Hall over a new contract, despite the defender’s existing deal running through 2029.
“Lewis Hall is in discussions with Newcastle over a new contract amid interest from Manchester United,” Sam reported. “Talks centre around improved terms.”
According to Sam, the potential agreement for an extension goes far beyond simply rewarding Hall financially. Newcastle is apparently prepared to elevate the 21-year-old’s status within Jaissle’s new-look squad, making him part of the new leadership group tasked with carrying the Magpies forward.
“Hall has also been offered a role within the leadership team under new manager Matthias Jaissle,” Sam reported. “Manchester United have been told he’s not for sale.”
Hall has developed into an established starter since initially arriving from Chelsea in 2023. He made 47 appearances across all competitions last season and has now surpassed 100 appearances for Newcastle.
There have been reports suggesting Hall has requested a transfer to Manchester United, but Sam’s report states the opposite, or at least that’s what it hints at, considering he’d entertain talks for an extension.
Would making Hall part of the leadership group be enough to convince you Newcastle sees him as untouchable going forward? Do you think Hall will eventually leave Newcastle in the next 12 months? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
