A lot of people have questioned just how good the talent pool is for Germany, but not new head coach Jürgen Klopp.
The former Liverpool manager has been impressed with the players that he has called into camp and is ready to see them in action.
“The boys are all coming off a long preseason, which means they all look very fit. Four Bundesliga matchdays have been played, and the boys are in good shape. They are outstanding talents, in every aspect of their game. The only problem is that the other countries
have good players too. Tactics were invented precisely because football isn’t simply about having the best players; it’s about making sure the opponent’s strengths aren’t as visible. That’s what we’ve been working on. The way we play football can help these players become the very best versions of themselves,” said Klopp (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “All the players who are here have overperformed relatively at their clubs. When was the last time that happened consistently with the national team? I don’t know, but certainly not every time. We want to try to make that happen more often again.
“The boys are really up for it. It means everything to them to play for Germany. And yet, there is still this impression [from outside] that it doesn’t. We are working on finding a way to make it happen together again. When we come together here, we want to exceed our own expectations and rise above ourselves.”
Klopp’s first foray into international play will certainly be something that all fans of the German national team will be watching. Some will watch to see Klopp’s tactics and others will want to see his style on the sidelines, but many will want to see how he works with this group of players during this four game stretch.
That might give the biggest clue about where all of this is ultimately headed.
