Kansas Jayhawks News
Kansas Football has started adding some commitments through the portal. That’s a good thing!
On the not so good thing, rumors are flying around Darryn Peterson and his future at Kansas. Bill Self looked
to quiet the rumors in his press conference before the TCU game.
Peterson’s time off the court has led fans, pundits, and everyone in between to have their own thoughts on what the best course of action for the freshman should be, with there being prominent discussions that Peterson should shut down his season. Earlier today, Self shut down those rumors.
But fans being fans, they’re not happy and it’s not entirely unjustified as there’s just so much unknown.
With all the speculation about Peterson’s health going into the game, fans expected him to be 100% and ready to go based on previous comments by head coach Bill Self. That obviously wasn’t the case, and the Jayhawks direly missed his offensive prowess late.
ESPN has a nugget on each team in the AP TOP 25 and highlights Peterson’s scoring prowess when he has been available.
Darryn Peterson has scored 103 points in 128 minutes of playing time so far this season. Those 103 points are the fourth most through five career games in Big 12 history, behind Michael Beasley (150), Trae Young (141) and Kevin Durant (112).
The women’s basketball team saw freshman Jaliya Davis named Big 12 Freshman of the Week following two strong games to open conference play.
Davis made an immediate impact in her return to the lineup after missing 10 games due to injury. She averaged 23.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 73.1 percent (19-26) from the field. Davis put up 21 points and pulled down a career-high seven rebounds as she played 32 minutes Thursday against West Virginia. In Sunday’s 83-68 victory at UCF, she knocked down 10-of-12 field goal attempts and scored a team-high 26 points to go along with five rebounds and a career-best two blocked shots.

It appears as though Charlie Weis Jr will be coaching Ole Miss in their next playoff game.
Colorado has a new AD and so far he’s saying nice things about Coach Prime, even though he hasn’t done anything all that special. I’d even quibble the author of the linked piece claiming Colorado is “back on the football map” at this point.
Colorado athletic director Fernando Lovo might not know his way around Boulder just yet — or even his way around his new office building — but he certainly realizes the importance of Sanders, who has put the Buffaloes back on the football map even if he has had only one winning season in three years.
Barry Petchesky at Defector writes about the Maduro/Trump/Venezuela/oil fiasco. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around this and the things that make sense out of it aren’t great for what we thought the world was going to be like the next 50 years.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed as much that remaining Venezuelan administration, metaphorically at gunpoint, is expected to be obedient to American interests. “[T]he people left behind in Venezuela now that are in charge of the police and everything else,” Rubio said Sunday morning, “I assure you they are going to probably be a lot more compliant than Maduro was as a result of this.”
QOTD: For something a little more light-hearted, we know the Chiefs weren’t good this year and Mahomes was both not as effective all year and he finished the season with a fairly serious knee injury. While that was going on, Kansas gave the Hunt’s a pot of gold for a new stadium. During the discussion, a few people who are somewhat opposed to state financing for billionaires have mentioned that Mahomes is highly unlikely to be a top of the league QB by the time the new stadium is operational. So what’s the O/U on top 5-10 seasons left for Mahomes starting with next season?
