This past week, I discussed the fact that we have all had that one player that the team added, maybe late in the draft or even as an undrafted free agent, that we personally were just so sure would either break out at the NFL level or at least be a long-time contributor to the roster, but eventually just washed out as another bust. I then asked the following question:
Please tell us your biggest disappointment in a player either drafted by our Dolphins or signed as an UDFA that never came close to
living up to the hype you had in your head for the guy.
Below are some of your thougths and answers-
UpInPensacola instead went with a coach that left a bad taste in the mouths of all Dolphins fans.
If I had to pick a coach who I thought had great promise, but burst my bubble, it was Nick Saban.
I could never root for Alabama again after Saban arrived because of what happened in Miami.
Reid_305 has a couple of guys that he remembers being disappointments. Oh, and that CB was Jamar Taylor, drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft.
John Beck for sure, and the CB we drafted from Boise State. I forget his name, wow.
ShulaSunglasses is just one of many who were wrong on Tua. Even I have to wonder what Tua could have been minus the horrible concussions and the fear that seems to have created in him.
Tua for me. I drank the KoolAid deeply with that one. There were times in 2023 and 24 where I thought he was the second coming only to be slapped by the firm hand of reality in 2025. I was maybe the last dude to jump of the TuaTrain, whilst Davidson drove it to Atlanta. I could not have been wrong.
FFFL66IBA&O points to a guy who we all hoped would be the second coming of Jason Taylor.
It’s got to be DE Dion Jordon. He was selected 3rd overall in 2013 after we traded up for him. He played in 26 games across 2 seasons notching only 3 sacks matching his 3 substance abuse suspensions!
Louie the lobster also points to Jordan and another guy who just could not get out of his own way.
One that we drafted high was Dion Jordan.
Free agent that I thought would dominate was Brandon Marshal.
PA phinphan points to three guys, including a QB who eventually wound up being a decent backup for the Chiefs.
UDFA: Verone McKinley III – I thought he was going to be a diamond in the rough. It turns out he was just rough.
First round bust: Charles Harris- for whatever reason I believed he would be a difference maker. He made no difference.
Day 2 pick: Chad Henne – He went to a local high school here in PA. I wanted him to be something greater than he turned out to be.
MiamiItaliano points to Parker, who was never what we had hoped but did have some nice games when he wasn’t hurt.
I thought Devante Parker would be the next Chad Ocho Cinco. Turns out he wasn’t even Chad Ocho.
tvegas897 is yet another who still has a bad taste in their mouth from the whole Dion Jordan fiasco.
Dion Jordan is one that really sticks out, or should I say, stinks out. In the present, I really hope it’s not Chop Robinson. I actually liked the pick but I knew it came with some red flags based on his uneven college career
sdphinsfan points to three solid choices, including a QB that we all had the highest of hopes for.
I’ve got a few…
Sammie Smith. Never materialized…
Ryan Tannehill. When you go back and look at his college tape, he moved around alot, and would take off and run. We put him in the pocket and almost got him killed. We need coaches who are willing to “change” the scheme up to fit the talent of what they draft, instead of forcing round pegs into square holes.
Vontae Davis. I didn’t have him pegged for greatness, but man, huge disappointment.
Jsttruth21 points to a guy who could have been good to great had he not committed a burglary.
yea what bout Cecil “The Diesel” Collins?…I mean I know what happened but come on!!! What signed big contract than broke his leg jumping cause what!? lol what a shame
Phoenix6 has three that never lived up to their hype.
I’m gonna go with three…
they excited me greatly coming in.
Yatil Green (1997, 15th Overall)
Hometown star from the U; always hurt… played a single year before his career ended.
Ted Ginn Jr. (2007, 9th Overall)
Drafted top 10, touted playmaker, to be a #1 Receiver… traded after 3-seasons.
John Beck (2007, 40th Overall)
Early 2nd rd franchise QB to be, played five games… finished with a 0-4 record.
Bill Moody points to the many failures in drafting linemen over many years.
Pretty much any of the linemen we drafted over the past 10 years… I’ll give the new guys Paul and Savi a pass for now. And Tunsil obviously doesn’t count as we traded him away.
MIAMI235 points out an RB that only lasted three seasons in Miami.
Sammie Smith……should have been a good one….
TheRoo1 points to possibly the biggest obvious blunder in franchise history.
If you count free agent signings,,,,
Dante Culpepper, not only for his poor play, but also considering they passed on Drew Brees to get him.
A decision so bad one must wonder how involved Grier was in the choice.
These posts always surprise me with how many horrible decisions the Dolphins have made over the years that I have forgotten, or maybe just buried deep in my mind for my own mental well-being. Hopefully this new regime will set this thing on a new course for many years to come because, at this point, if you have stuck around as a die-hard fan through all of that, you deserve something to cheer about.
