After backing up the money truck for Justin Jefferson a couple of seasons ago, the Minnesota Vikings appear to have, potentially, started the process for doing the same for another star receiver on Monday morning.
To the surprise of nobody, the Vikings announced that they have officially picked up the fifth-year option on the rookie contract of wide receiver Jordan Addison. That means that Addison will make a fully-guaranteed $18 million in 2027, a number that could be the starting point for negotiations
on a longer-term deal.
Now that he has completed three NFL seasons, Addison is eligible for an extension. In his first three years in the NFL, he has caught 175 passes for 2,396 yards and 22 touchdowns.
While Addison is, likely, going to be in line to make a lot of money in the near future, he’s probably never going to be the highest-paid receiver in Minnesota as long as Jefferson is still wearing purple. Still, Addison has shown big-play ability in his three years with the Vikings, so it will be interesting to see what the front office will attempt to do to keep Addison in the fold while also trying to keep him happy financially. It’s going to be a bit of a balancing act, but that’s why people like Rob Brzezinski get paid the way that they do.
The Vikings have WR2 under team control for the next two seasons, ladies and gentlemen. What do you think of the team exercising Jordan Addison’s fifth-year option and their prospects for keeping him on the roster for the long haul?
