Louisville has received a commitment from London Johnson, a 21-year-old point guard from the class of 2026. Johnson has spent the past three seasons in the G-League.
According to multiple sources, Johnson
plans on enrolling at U of L in December, and will be eligible to play during the 2026-27 season. Johnson is “expected” to have two years of eligibility to use at Louisville.
A 4-star recruit coming out of high school in 2022, Johnson opted not to sign with a college and instead signed a two-year deal with the NBA’s G-League Ignite. He averaged 10.5 points and 3.0 assists per game in his first season with Ignite, and 10.6 points and 4.9 assists per game in his second.
Johnson did not declare for the 2024 NBA Draft, and was selected by the Maine Celtics with the 21st overall pick in the 2024 G League Draft. In three games with the Celtics, he averaged 2.3 points, 1.0 rebound, and 1.0 assist. He was waived by the Celtics and later signed by the Cleveland Charge.
Johnson’s commitment to Louisville comes almost a month after the NCAA ruled former G League Ignite player Thierry Darlan was eligible to play Division-I basketball at Santa Clara. Darlan became the first player to obtain NCAA eligibility after playing professionally in the G League, and multiple others have since followed his lead.
The addition of Johnson likely doesn’t move the needle a ton when it comes to the early makings of Pat Kelsey’s 2026-27 roster, but I do think he has the potential to slide into the Kobe Rodgers role of defensive-minded, solid, experienced backup point guard.
