Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes saga has entered a bit more delicate stage, and one that could simply make it better for everybody to part ways once and for all.
Per the latest reports, Newcastle is now really fearing another long transfer standoff after losing Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali in recent windows, and might give up and send Bruno packing shortly.
According to Chronicle Live’s Lee Ryder, Newcastle still insists Bruno is not for sale despite reports that the Brazil midfielder
wants to join Arsenal, but that could change with an offer that pleases Newcastle’s business.
“Chronicle Live reported on June 25 that Bruno was ‘not for sale’ and as a fresh story broke last night, there was an insistence that was still the case,” Ryder wrote.
The latest twist centers on where the story came from. Ryder reported that some at St. James’ Park believe agents or intermediaries may have been behind the leak, but people close to Bruno deny that it came from his camp.
“Those close to Guimaraes and his representatives told us it had not come from the Brazil star’s camp,” Ryder wrote. “However, they do not deny that the player wants to leave.”
That final point is the concern for Newcastle. Bruno has never caused problems since arriving from Lyon in 2022, but the club will now wait to see whether he reports back on time for preseason after Brazil’s World Cup exit. Ryder reported that intermediaries floated a £45 million figure last month, roughly €52 million, but Newcastle immediately rejected it.
According to Ryder, a £60 million, roughly €70 million, offer could be enough for Newcastle to greenlight a transfer, although the report states such a figure has been refuted around Tyneside, while no official communication had taken place between Newcastle and Arsenal as of Tuesday night.
“Arsenal chiefs believe that while there is no minimum fee release clause within the framework of his contract, Newcastle could be open to a £60m sale for their captain,” Ryder wrote.
According to everything we know, Bruno is concerned about Newcastle’s direction after a 12th-place finish, the sales of Gordon and Tonali, and the setback of not having European football next season, with the three of those things being better or available for him at Arsenal if he moves there for next season.
