Newcastle United continues its preseason preparations on Wednesday with a trip to Edinburgh to face Everton at Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium. The Magpies enter their fourth public friendly of the summer coming off a 2-1 win over Valencia at Mestalla, with three more games remaining — including today’s — before the Premier League campaign starts against Liverpool on Aug. 23.
With results still secondary at this stage of the summer, the focus will remain on Newcastle’s performance, fitness levels,
and Matthias Jaissle’s continued work with his new squad in his second game at the helm.
The German head coach could make changes to the side that started against Valencia, while Yoane Wissa will be pushing for a place in the XI to solidify himself in the first-selection squad after scoring both goals in Saturday’s victory. Anthony Elanga, meanwhile, is expected to miss out after suffering an injury against Valencia.
All that said, facing fellow Premier League opposition should provide Newcastle with another useful test as the new season approaches. Everton has already played five preseason games and arrives in Edinburgh following a 3-1 defeat to Stuttgart, with David Moyes also continuing to shape his squad ahead of the competitive campaign.
