We’re rapidly approaching the end of the 2025 season, and the Rockies are doing their best to end on a high. Before they begin their last homestand next week, they must first face off with the San Diego Padres in a four-game series at Petco.
These waning weeks are important in the growth of young talent, and growth is what McCade Brown (0-3, 12.54 ERA) will hope to show when he takes the mound tonight. His first three big league starts haven’t exactly gone swimmingly, with his most recent outing seeing
him cede six runs in just 1 2/3 innings to these same Friars last Saturday.
Brown will do his best to put together a more competitive outing on Thursday as he continues his quest for his first win at the MLB level.
Randy Vásquez (4-6, 3.91 ERA), meanwhile, will attempt to improve upon what was already a solid start in that same prior contest. The Dominican right-hander allowed just two earned runs in six innings, working around eight hits en route to a victory.
Colorado’s bats did wake up late in that contest, an eventual 10-8 finish, but that may be a tall order tonight. The Rockies have struggled mightily generating offense in San Diego, as they’re batting a collective .184 there, the lowest mark of any ballpark they’ve played at this season.
Hopefully Ezequiel Tovar can be the arbiter of some offensive action that the Rockies desperately need. He’s hitting .545 with an RBI in 11 at-bats versus Vásquez, including going 3-for-3 against him last time out.
