After striking out on their top candidate, and a few others along the way, the Nittany Lions are reportedly facing on Matt Campbell as their next head coach. Campbell has done wonders for the Iowa State program, most recently giving the Cyclones their first 11-win season in program history.
Campbell is well respected amongst the coaching circles, and one Josh Pate has been gunning for this to be the outcome of the search from the start. Maybe if Pate had been leading the search, Penn State would have avoided some embarrassment along the way.
Campbell has been at Iowa State since 2016, and holds a 72-55 record as the Cyclones’ head coach. He is one of two coaches in the modern era of college football to have a winning record at Iowa State.
All in all, if the Nittany Lions end up with Campbell after how this search has gone, we should be quite pleased with the result.
