Barcelona president Joan Laporta has been talking transfers amid ongoing speculation that the club want to sign Julian Alvarez and Alessandro Bastoni this summer.
The club chief has once again sounded fairly cautious when it comes to summer signings and insists Barcelona won’t buy players “for the sake of it.”
“I understand that we will improve in all aspects, but I must say that what I think must be done after getting such a competitive team is to maintain it and consolidate. I want to say that we don’t
need to go to the market for the sake of going and we must continue to look at what we have at home to, if necessary, improve the squad,” he told Món Esport.
“I have always kept in mind that the best Barça – or rather, the best Barça teams in history – have been when we have had a core of homegrown players combined with other high-quality players who have come from elsewhere.
“Now we have a lot of them! We will only sign players if the football management asks us for one or two players who can strengthen this great team we have.”
Laporta was also quizzed on the futures of loanees Joan Cancelo and Marcus Rashford but wasn’t giving anything away, explaining “Deco and Flick will have to decide. Rashford is having a good season and Cancelo is playing exceptionally well.”
