Bayern Munich faced VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 13 in the Bundesliga following their 3-2 win at the DFB Pokal in mid-week. The weekend Bundesliga game featured a rotated squad, owing to the heavy roster
in the upcoming weeks with several important games.
What ensued was a quiet, uncharacteristic first half where Bayern seemed to be a tad overpowered by a hardworking Stuttgart side. The Bavarians managed only one goal in the first half, owing to an incredible backheel shot by Konrad Laimer. The second half featured multiple key subs which turned the game around. Particularly, the substitution of Harry Kane was crucial in helping Bayern convert their chances. The game then ended a 5-0 with four goals in half an hour.
However, per @iMiaSanMia, manager Vincent Kompany does not think Bayern had a bad start — rather he attributes the first half to Stuttgart’s efforts. “We didn’t have a bad start to the game. Stuttgart have always pressed us high and played their game. That brings intensity to the game. We lost a bit of momentum,” he explained.
“But in the second half we were more focused, the subs helped us bring more physicality and be stronger,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of well-timed substitutions.
What is interesting is that this is perhaps the first time this season Kompany has made subs at the right time. Looks like the manager is figuring it out, and Bayern is in safe hands after all…
