Bayern Munich star striker Harry Kane gave it all he had and felt like England was in a good position to advance to the World Cup final, but it all felt apart late. Leading 1-0 through 84 minutes, the Three Lions were in a position to knock off the defending champions, but a late collapse sent England home — without the cup….again.
Afterward, Kane was obviously distraught and talked through the feeling of having it all slip away.
“We’re gutted for the boys, gutted for everyone, the team, the staff,
the fans. We played a good game for the large majority of it. When we went 1-0 up, we seemed to try and hold on, which at this level is not enough. We’ve worked so hard to be here. So to fall short is just gutting,” Kane said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kane will now go off on a little break before returning to Bayern Munich for his club season. It will be a while before he loses the bitter taste in his mouth left from this loss, but Kane — as always — will rebound.
