When your goalkeeping situation is very much unclear beyond the current season, you are bound to be linked to players who are either of the young and up-and-coming variety who may have done some pretty good things recently, those you have been linked to before or maybe even both. Considering it’s the first international break of the 2026-27 season and one that lasts three freakin’ weeks, there’s bound to be some sort of speculation.
Enter Lorenzo Palmisani.
The young Frosinone goalkeeper, a player
linked with Juventus during the winter transfer window as the Michele Di Gregorio era was looking like it was heading toward an abrupt end, is now very much the subject of rumors linking him with a move to Turin once again. However, it is not necessarily a move that would see him wearing the same goalkeeper kit that Gigi Buffon once wore right away. No, according to the likes of Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio this week as well as Turin-based Tuttosport, Juventus are trying to lay the groundwork for a move for Palmisani to secure the 22-year-old’s signature come the January transfer window.
It could very well be a deal structured a lot like what Juventus and Frosinone did when the Bianconeri signed Federico Gatti in January 2022 — sign him and then loan him right back for the remainder of the season, then have him come back to Turin the following summer.
Following his extraordinary performance in goal during Frosinone’s stunning win over Como last weekend, Palmisani signed a contract extension through 2031. It is that, plus just how well he has played to begin this season, that has many Italian media outlets speculating just how much his value has risen as compared to when Juve were first linked to him earlier this year.
Hard to say at this point because if he keeps this up, his price is only going to go upward.
Palmisani, currently on international duty with the Italy Under-21 squad as they play qualifying matches for the U-21 Euros next summer, likely wouldn’t assume a major role at Juventus if he were to sign during the winter window and then officially return to Turin the following summer. With Guglielmo Vicario’s option to buy a very affordable €8 million come next summer, Palmisani could very well be the No. 2 for a season before taking over after a season as Vicario’s backup.
That all is if Juventus actually sign him. Which, as of the reporting has stated this week, seems like something that Giovanni Carnevali and others in the front office are very interested in seeing happen.
