Continuing on an annual tradition to celebrate the upcoming NHL trade deadline on March 6th, we find out how predictable the Colorado Avalanche are through a bingo card game. In the past trade targets, wants and needs were examined along with last year’s familiar faces card. This year a new winkle — what will GM Chris MacFarland say at his trade deadline press conference?
Since the Avalanche are All In on winning another Stanley Cup in their contention window, it’s easy to assume some veteran acquisition
is on the horizon to add good depth, leadership, compete and experience for the stretch run.
The type likely of interest is someone who will play hard minutes, bring a sandpaper type quality and is ideally playoff tested. They should have big strong characteristics as a person who is long and possesses a big body who can go to the hard areas and take the biggest matchups.
There’s still a salary cap in the NHL and the Avalanche lack premium assets to spend, so the upgrades need to bring good value to the organization. Moving on from any existing roster players would be purely a hockey decision given where Colorado sits in first place in the standings. If MacFarland identifies a file he likes, he’s sure to strike on a deal that makes sense for someone that’s a great fit in the mix with current players in Colorado.
How many squares will the Avalanche hit on? Can they hit on all of them? Who will fit the above criteria? Can we get a bingo? Leave your predictions below.
