Triple-A: Nashville Sounds (MIL) 9, Norfolk Tides 7 – Final/10
This was a crazy one, as Norfolk climbed back from a 6-0 hole to tie it in the ninth before an unreliable Houston Roth sunk them in extra innings.
It was a messy outing for Levi Wells, who allowed five runs in four innings on a pair of home runs. The 23-year-old Wells has a 7.59 ERA in three outings at Triple-A Norfolk.
After that, six pitchers had varying levels of success. Corbin Martin (still here) and Thaddeus Ward threw a scoreless inning apiece. Chayce McDermott walked three, alas, one of whom
scored. New guy Anthony Nunez struck out three of three batters he faced. Yaramil Hiraldo also kept Nashville off the board, but Houston Roth allowed three runs.
The Tides didn’t score a run until the eighth inning, but then they did in bunches: Jordyn Adams, Livan Soto and TT Bowens all homered. Enrique Bradfield hit a game-tying sac fly in the ninth.
Enrique Bradfield finished 2-for-4. Reed Trimble went 3-for-5.
Double-A: Harrisburg Senators (WAS) 6, Chesapeake Baysox 3
Blake Money took this loss after allowing three runs (two earned) in 4.2 innings. Two scored after he left, when Peter van Loon served up a double then tossed two wild pitches in a row. Van Loon allowed one more, and so did Alex Pham in the ninth.
The Baysox got on the board in the sixth on one swing: Creed Williams homered to right field. Then Aron Estrada singled home a second run and Thomas Sosa doubled in a third.
High-A: Aberdeen IronBirds 3, Wilmington Blue Rocks (WAS) 1
The IronBirds’ final game as an Orioles affiliate was a winner. Wilmington scored its one and only run when starter Chase Allsup allowed a single, steal, and two extra bases on a throwing error. It was a bad start for Allsup but a good finish: he went five innings and allowed the one single and run. Allsup wasn’t great in Delmarva this year (5.64 ERA in 21 starts) but finished with a 2.08 ERA in two starts at Aberdeen.
Jack Crowder followed with four scoreless with just one hit. He walked none and struck out five.
On offense, Nate George and Vance Honeycutt led off a two-run rally with back-to-back singles. Colin Tuft grounded into a double play, but the IronBirds scored twice more: Anderson de los Santos singled, and Elis Cuevas did, too. They’d score one more in the eighth on a walk, single and a throwing error.
De los Santos and Maikol Hernández had two hits each, and everyone but Víctor Figueroa had a hit.
Low-A: Lynchburg Hillcats (CLE), Delmarva Shorebirds – Canceled
Inclement weather in Salisbury canceled the Shorebirds’ season finale.
