AUSTIN, Texas — Ranked No. 1 in both preseason polls, the Texas Longhorns enter the 2025 season as an upset target for their opponents, starting with the reigning national champion Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday in Columbus.
In an echo of the “John Wick mentality” the Longhorns adopted during the 2023 season as they “embraced the hate” of their departure from the Big 12, Texas redshirt sophomore quarterback Arch Manning said on Monday that his team is trying to flip the narrative.
“We’re going for
everyone else,” Manning said. “The target’s not on our back, but we’ve got a red dot on everyone else.”
For junior running back Quintrevion Wisner, a centerpiece of the team’s personality because of his ability to bring juice every day in practice, it’s about embracing an underdog mentality even amidst all the national belief.
“Even with us being ranked so high, we still have many doubters, so just turning that target into a red dot gives us the power to believe more ourselves and then the program and our brothers. So that’s something we emphasize a lot,” Wisner said.
Since sophomore edge Colin Simmons has reigned back his public displays of confidence, he settled for a simple statement on Monday.
“We comin’ for it. We comin’. We comin’. That’s all I got on that.”
