Last week, it was reported that Jeremy Sochan’s camp was granted permission to talk to teams in the hopes of finding a landing spot via trade.
The Knicks showed interest, valuing Sochan’s defense and tenacity.
They offered a pair of French forwards Guerschon Yabusele and Pacome Dadiet in exchange for Sochan. The deal was nixed (pun intended) as San Antonio was unwilling to take on Yabusele’s $5.78 million player option for next season.
Yabusele, originally drafted by Boston in 2018, played in 74 games between 2017-2019 with the Celtics. He then continued to play overseas.
During the 2024 Olympics, Yabusele earned renewed interest from the NBA as France competed for the gold in Mens Basketball. The French came up short in the final game, claiming silver, and Yabusele signed to the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2024-2025 season.
Last summer, he signed a two-year contract with the New York Knicks, the second year being the crux of the failed trade.
Pacome Dadiet was drafted 25th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, the fourth French player to draft in the first round. He split time with the Knicks and their Westchester G-League affiliate during his rookie season. This season, he has played four minutes in two games.
Michael Scotto, staff writer for The Athletic, reported that Phoenix is among suitors for Sochan, but the Suns are reluctant to increase their luxury tax bill through a trade.
Sochan could end up missing the trade deadline almost exclusively to financial constraints.
