Lost in the shuffle of last week’s Seahawks’ Super Bowl ring celebration was the fact that one particular ex-Seahawk did not attend the ceremony: Super Bowl MVP, Kenneth Walker III.
This stood out considering other ex-Seahawks such as Riq Woolen and Coby Bryant were in attendance. In fact, Walker was the only ex-Seahawk who wasn’t there.
Many fans’ initial reaction to Walker’s lack of attendance may be one of sadness, anger, curiosity, etc. Walker himself said he intended to attend the ceremony. However,
he was unable to attend due to the Kansas City Chiefs (his current employer) having a mandatory minicamp that same day.
Now the counter argument to that is that the aforementioned Coby Bryant was able to get an excused absence from the Chicago Bears’ mandatory minicamp that day. So, what gives? Did the Chiefs refuse Walker’s request? Did Walker decide not to request the day off, perhaps to turn the page onto his next team/next season? That we do not know, and we may never know. Regardless, Walker’s former teammates seem to have his back.
As for Seattle, now that the ring ceremony has ended, it is also time for them to turn the page onto the next season. Hopefully this time next year, the Seahawks will be scheduling their third Super Bowl ring ceremony (and second in two years).
