Lamine Yamal provided an honest assessment of his performances for Barcelona after Sunday’s La Liga draw against Rayo Vallecano.
Barça dropped points for the first time this season and go into the first international break of the campaign in fourth place in the table, and Yamal was asked after the match about his levels so far.
The teenager, who has two goals and two assists in the first three games, was honest and self-critical, saying he can play better than he is right now despite the good numbers.
“I can be better this season. I’m not at my peak. The stats are very good, but I don’t care. I want to feel better on the pitch.”
Yamal also analyzed the match against Rayo and pointed to a lack of intensity as the main reason why the Blaugrana weren’t able to pick up the win in Vallecas.
“In the end, it’s a very difficult pitch, and we lacked intensity, just like in the rest of the matches at the start of La Liga. We have to learn from this to get back to playing with the intensity we had last year after the break.”

It’s great to see Yamal’s honesty and self-awareness, which are crucial aspects in the growth of any person, let alone a player at the highest level of sport. As for the team’s lack of intensity, that was also Hansi Flick’s assessment of the performance against Rayo, and it’s something Barça must correct quickly before more points are dropped.
