One of the surprisingly positive things from this game was Xabi Alonso’s decision to start Castilla defender Victor Valdepeñas. Valdepeñas, who can play center-back as well, started at left-back in the absences of Alvaro Carreras, Fran Garcia, and Ferland Mendy. The decision was a good
one.
