The Chargers announced on Thrusday that they’ve completed a second interview with an in-house candidate as quarterbacks coach Shane Day was given a look for the team’s offensive coordinator opening.
Day
has never once held the title of offensive coordinator in his career but he’s been integral in the development of several of the NFL’s top young quarterbacks, including Herbert and the Texans’ C.J. Stroud. Day has spent two stints with the Chargers as Herbert’s position coach, the first time under Brandon Staley in 2022 (fired with OC Joe Lombardi) and the second under Harbaugh when the latter was hired in 2024.
Similar to the news of Marcus Brady interviewing for the position, I believe this is just the Chargers doing their due diligence and giving some in-house names a look. Day has shown to have a great rapport with Herbert over the years and it wouldn’t be crazy to think he may have some insight into what the best offense looks like for Herbert.
