In the New York Jets’ fourth game of the 2025 season, on a warm and muggy early autumn night in Miami, Florida, the Jets lost to the Miami Dolphins, 27 – 21.
The first half saw the Jets dominate on the ground
but fumble their way to a 10 – 3 halftime deficit.
The Jets opened the third quarter in classic Jets fashion, fumbling the opening second half kickoff and turning the ball over to the Dolphins deep in Jets territory. A few plays later Tagovailoa connected with Waller in the end zone for the second time this game and the Dolphins took a 17 – 3 lead early in the second half.
On the next drive the Jets faced a fourth and one in Dolphins territory when Justin Fields took off on a spectacular scramble for a touchdown, cutting the Dolphins lead to seven at 17 – 10 midway through the third quarter.
The Dolphins answered, driving the length of the field and punching it in on a nine yard Achane run to take a 24 – 10 lead late in the third quarter as the Jets defense showed only token resistance. The third quarter ended with the score still 24 – 10 and the Jets driving deep in Dolphins territory.
Early in the fourth quarter Nick Folk drilled a fifty yard field goal to get the Jets within 11 points at 24 -13.
The Dolphins tacked on a field goal with 3:33 left in the game and the game was all but over. The Jets offense simply isn’t built to score two touchdowns in less than four minutes.
The Jets made a valiant effort, driving for a score on a spectacular catch by Garrett Wilson in the end zone. Justin Fields ran in a two point conversion to make the score Dolphins 27, Jets 21 with less than two minutes left. Unfortunately for the Jets, a failed onsides kick sealed their fate. The Dolphins ran down the clock, then pinned the Jets on their own two yard line with a great punt with two seconds remaining. A trick play with multiple laterals by the Jets didn’t come close to scoring on the last play of the game.
The loss brings the Jets’ record to 0-4 to start the 2025 season. Now the Jets move on to preparing for a home game against the Dallas Cowboys next week.
