The Wisconsin Badgers finished off the regular season with a bang on Saturday, beating the Purdue Boilermakers 97-93 on the road to secure yet another Top 25 win.
It was an amazing game, with both sides going back and forth until the final whistle, and the Badgers found a way to avenge their loss from earlier in the regular season.
With the win, Wisconsin surpassed Purdue in the Big Ten standings, jumping up to No. 5, as it improved to 22-9 on the year and 14-6 in Big Ten play. But that wasn’t the only
feat they accomplished.
Beating the No. 15 team, Wisconsin secured its fourth straight win over a top-25 opponent, marking the first time it’s done that since its stellar 2014-15 season, when the team made the National Championship Game.
Not only that, but three of the four wins were over top 10 teams (Michigan State, Illinois, and Michigan), with three wins also being on the road (Illinois, Michigan, and Purdue). It’s the third time in program history that Wisconsin has secured three top-25 road victories in a year. All three have happened under head coach Greg Gard, with the two other seasons being 2015-16 and 2019-20.
This year, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Michigan are the only teams with three top-15 road wins this season. Overall, the Badgers are showing that they’re capable of beating anyone, which is exactly what you need heading into March.
Now, they’ll have some big tests coming up next week in the Big Ten Tournament. They’ve had some magic before in the tournament, reaching the Final in each of the past two years. Can they do it again?
