The New York Giants had an exciting Week 1 win over the Dallas Cowboys! Since then? Not great.
The G-Men got blown out by the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night in Week 2 while also sustaining multiple key injuries.
One of those was to starting quarterback Jaxson Dart, who left the game with a knee injury.
After some initial optimism (Giants GM Joe Schoen insisted that he was “going to be OK”) that Dart avoided a major injury, the Giants are getting some bad news.
Dart’s injury is “worse than anticipated”
and the quarterback is “out an extended period of time, possibly the season,” according to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
This news is obviously a brutal blow to the Giants’ outlook. They have an experienced backup in Jameis Winston, who struggled against the Rams but has obviously had some levels of success in the past.
The Philadelphia Eagles are set to play the Giants on the road in Week 9 and at home in Week 18. It sounds like Dart will at least miss the November 8 game. And if New York is unable to stay afloat without him, they might not bother bringing him back (assuming he’s even healthy enough to play) very late in the season.
Tough break for the Giants, who are now the second team in the NFC East to have a major quarterback injury with Jayden Daniels also getting hurt in Week 2. Check out more coverage of this injury over at Big Blue View.
