With several nations already through to the knockout stages, Matchday 3 presents one of the biggest strategic opportunities of the tournament for World Cup Fantasy managers.
The main challenge is navigating rotation. Teams like Argentina and France have already secured qualification, while others still have plenty to play for.
As a result, Wildcard managers can take advantage of favorable matchups by targeting nations that need results and are expected to field strong lineups.
The Netherlands, Morocco,
Senegal and Ivory Coast stand out as the best teams to invest in this round. All four have attractive fixtures and clear motivation heading into the final group-stage matches.
With that in mind, here’s our preferred Matchday 3 Wildcard team in a 3-4-3 formation.
Goalkeeper
Yahia Fofana (Ivory Coast) – $4.2m
Fofana gets the nod between the posts thanks to Ivory Coast’s favorable matchup against Curacao. The Elephants know a win could secure their place in the knockout rounds, while Curacao have struggled to create consistent attacking opportunities throughout the tournament.
The clean-sheet potential is among the best of any goalkeeper in Matchday 3, making Fofana an easy inclusion for Wildcard managers looking for both safety and upside.
Defenders
Achraf Hakimi (Morocco) – $6.0m
Hakimi remains one of the most attacking defenders in the game despite not yet registering an attacking return at this World Cup. His advanced positioning, willingness to shoot and ability to create chances continue to make him one of Morocco’s most dangerous players.
Against a Haiti side yet to score in the tournament, Hakimi offers multiple routes to points through both clean-sheet and attacking potential.
Denzel Dumfries (Netherlands) – $5.7m
The Dutch wing-back produced two assists in Matchday 2 and remains a key part of the Netherlands attack. Tunisia have conceded more goals than any other team at the tournament, making this one of the standout fixtures of the round.
With the Netherlands still needing a result, managers can expect Dumfries to play an important role at both ends of the pitch.
Noussair Mazraoui (Morocco) – $4.4m
For those seeking value, Mazraoui looks like one of the strongest defensive picks available. He already has an assist to his name and benefits from the same favorable matchup as Hakimi.
At his price point, he offers excellent value and allows managers to invest more heavily in attack without sacrificing clean-sheet potential.
Midfielders
Ismael Saibari (Morocco) – $6.8m
Saibari is arguably the standout midfield option for Matchday 3. While listed as a midfielder in fantasy, he has often operated in advanced attacking positions and has already scored twice during the tournament.
Morocco’s clash with Haiti presents another opportunity for returns, and his combination of goal threat and affordability makes him one of the first names on the Wildcard team sheet.
Brahim Diaz (Morocco) – $6.4m
Diaz has quietly become one of Morocco’s most consistent creative outlets. He has recorded assists in consecutive matches and continues to dominate set-piece duties and chance creation for his side.
With Morocco expected to control possession and create opportunities throughout the game, Diaz has strong potential for another attacking return.
Sadio Mane (Senegal) – $7.6m
Senegal’s meeting with Iraq is one of the most appealing attacking fixtures of Matchday 3. Iraq have already conceded seven goals across their opening two matches and continue to give opponents plenty of opportunities.
Mane remains Senegal’s talisman and should be heavily involved if his side finds success in the final third.
Crysencio Summerville (Netherlands) – $5.3m
For managers looking to gain ground, Summerville offers excellent differential appeal. The winger remains low-owned and qualifies for the scouting bonus while carrying genuine attacking threat.
Against a struggling Tunisia defense, he could be one of the most effective budget midfielders available this week.
Forwards
Memphis Depay (Netherlands) – $8.5m
Depay is expected to make his first start of the tournament and immediately becomes one of the best forward options in the game.
The Netherlands have one of the highest projected goal totals of Matchday 3, and Depay’s ability to both score and create makes him an ideal Wildcard target.
Nicolas Jackson (Senegal) – $6.7m
Jackson combines a favorable fixture with incredibly low ownership. Iraq’s defensive struggles have already been well documented, and Senegal should create plenty of chances throughout the contest.
As the focal point of the attack, Jackson has the potential to deliver one of the biggest hauls of the round.
Cody Gakpo (Netherlands) – $7.7m
Gakpo completes a triple-up on the Dutch attack. Tunisia have conceded nine goals in two matches and have looked vulnerable throughout the group stage.
Whether operating centrally or from a wider position, Gakpo has consistently found himself involved in dangerous attacking situations and looks well placed to capitalize once again.
Captaincy
The captaincy conversation centers around Memphis Depay, Ismael Saibari and Sadio Mane.
Depay arguably has the best combination of fixture and projected minutes, making him the standout captaincy option for Matchday 3.
Saibari offers an excellent alternative for managers looking to back Morocco’s favorable matchup against Haiti, while Mane remains a strong differential captain against an Iraq side that has struggled defensively throughout the tournament.
