The Cleveland Browns head coaching search process is starting to pick up steam, despite NFL rules that limit who the team can interview. Just two days after firing HC Kevin Stefanski, for a variety of reasons, the Browns have started gathering candidates for their position. The big news on Tuesday was John Harbaugh being available, with Cleveland having at least a few reasons he could be interested in their job
.The Browns have requested interviews so far with Baltimore Ravens OC Todd Monken and
Seattle Seahawks DC Aden Durde for their open head coaching position. Many Cleveland fans want their own DC, Jim Schwartz, to get the job, but it is OC Tommy Rees who will get the first in-house interview:
Rees has been a hot name for multiple college jobs, including UNC, Penn State, and Michigan, recently.
Prior to his roles in Cleveland, Rees quickly obtained a lot of varying coaching experience after his playing career ended:
- A year at Northwestern
- A year with the San Diego Chargers
- 6 years at Notre Dame, first as their QB coach, then as offensive coordinator
- A year with the Alabama Crimson Tide as Nick Saban’s OC
The 33-year-old Rees would be a strong offensive coordinator candidate for a number of jobs if he doesn’t get a head coaching position. Both Rees and Schwartz are under contract with the Browns and could be retained by the next head coach or become the next head coach themselves.
What do you think about Tommy Rees’ candidacy for the Browns head coaching position?
