Hi y’all. Doesn’t it feel nice to have one week where we don’t have to stress about Houston Texans football?
It gives one time to think. And in this case, I think of evolution. Namely, the evolution of a fan.
I think that when a fan is unable to sustain in their needed amount of BIRG (basking in reflected glory), they begin to adopt other means of getting the same feeling; good old-fashioned schaudenfreude.
To wit, I give you the currently 2-5 Houston Texans. In deep trouble to make the playoffs, let
alone have any sliver of hope for the division.
And yet, watching the “Dallas” Cowboys, a team which had a 69-0 (not nice) record at home when up by 14 or more points, lose in overtime to the Arizona Cardinals; a team which has an all time record of 1-147-1 on the road when being down by 14 or more points.
I may not be able to get satisfaction from watching my favorite football team, but this kind of failure will nourish me in the long dark spring days when football is a mere memory for years.
Oh, another NFC-East related game is coming up tonight. Which ones? I don’t know, they’re all pretty interchangeable at this point.
Here’s what you need to know about tonight’s matchup:
Who: Philadelphia Eagles (2-5) at Washington Commanders (1-4-1)
What: Sunday Night Football
Where: Northwest Stadium, Landover, MD
When: Sunday, November 1, 7:15 p.m. CST
Why: Because bad football can be extremely funny when viewed through the correct light.
TV: NBC
Radio: Westwood One
Streaming: DirecTV*, Fubo*, Hulu+Live Sports*, NFL+*, Peacock*, SlingTV*, YouTubeTV* (*subscription required)
Enjoy the game, y’all.
Go Texans
