During the press conference ahead of Bundesliga’s Matchday 13 against VfB Stuttgart, Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany gave an insight on the fitness status of long-term injured stars Alphonso Davies
and Jamal Musiala.
Concerning left-back Alphonso Davies, Kompany foresees the return of the Canadian is close, after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee during a Concacaf Nations League match against the USMNT in March. “Alphonso Davies is very close [to a comeback]. It won’t be tomorrow, but probably next week. It’s looking good for him,” stated the Belgian (via @iMiaSanMia).
Bayern’s manager elaborated on Davies’ situation and how injuries of that gravity should be treated with extreme caution (@via iMiaSanMia). “With these long-term injuries, you have to get everything right medically. It’s in our minds that he might get his first minutes against Mainz. That’s already a bonus. It’s important that we’re patient. We’ll have to see whether he’ll be in the squad against Sporting without getting any playing time.” In addition, the coach praised Davies’ mentality through the whole process. “He’s very strong mentally. At the beginning, he needed a little time to find his motivation. You always have to think about how to come back stronger from an injury. I believe he’ll come back very strong from this injury. He’s under no pressure now (via @iMiaSanMia).
Lastly, Kompany talked about Jamal Musiala, who suffered a broken fibula and ankle dislocation during a Club World Cup quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain back in July. For the young prodigy, Bayern’s boss declared that his return will have to wait a bit longer (via @iMiaSanMia): “Jamal is still a bit further away [than Davies], but everything is going well. He should be able to train with us a few times before Christmas. 2026 could be his year,” informed Kompany.
The coach and fans alike are eagerly waiting the imminent return of both Davies and Musiala. Their quality will surely bolster up the strength of this team, and their abilities should contribute to Bayern’s efforts to conquer the local and continental objectives for the season.
