Jake Paul won’t fight again until he gets cleared by a physician after suffering a gruesome broken jaw in his knockout loss to Anthony Joshua.
On Sunday, the Florida Athletic Commission confirmed the medical suspensions to MMA Fighting that were handed down from the card held in Miami in December. Paul headlined the list of suspended athletes with an indefinite suspension after his jaw was broken in two places in the sixth round.
The fight served as Paul’s first knockout loss and the second defeat
overall in his career.
After avoiding Joshua for the majority of the fight, Paul slowed down dramatically as the fight got deeper into the fourth and fifth rounds. Joshua eventually scored a pair of knockdowns in the fifth, with Paul effectively dropping and diving for legs to avoid further damage.
In the sixth round, Joshua finally trapped Paul in a corner where he unloaded punches, including the vicious right hook that put the former YouTuber down on the canvas for the final time. Paul initially smiled after the knockdown, but the referee saw enough and stopped the fight before further harm could be inflicted.
Afterwards, Paul revealed that he suffered a broken jaw, which required multiple plates to be placed in his face to repair the damage done. Now Paul has to wait until his jaw heals and he receives medical clearance from a physician before he can be cleared to compete again.
Tyron Woodley also received a 30-day suspension after he suffered a knockout loss to UFC Hall of Famer Anderson Silva in their boxing match on the main card for the event that aired on Netflix. Silva, who continues to defy the odds at 50 years old, put Woodley down with a nasty combination, including a stiff uppercut that dropped the former UFC welterweight champion.
The loss dropped Woodley to 0-3 in boxing after previously dropping a pair of fights to Paul after crossing over to the new combat sport after making his name in MMA.
