Confidence and belief has never been in short supply for Manuel Neuer. I mean, how else could the sweeper keeper make the boldest of decisions like only he can, in every single game. As far as Germany is concerned, Neuer believes they can go all the way and lift Coupe du Monde in America.
“I absolutely believe the team is capable of it, otherwise I wouldn’t be here. To win my second World Cup would of course be very special for me. If I didn’t see a chance, I wouldn’t be sitting here today,” said
Neuer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) declaring his intent and vision for Germany at the FIFA World Cup.
Despite not being the hottest favorites, Germany have a squad capable of playing fast and direct football relying on the speed and dynamism of special talents plying their trade in the Bundesliga and the Premier League.
Against Curaçao, Die Mannschaft were the clear favorites. However, few saw the 7-1 scoreline coming. Perhaps the poor record in the previous editions and manager Julian Nagelsmann’s late decisions regarding the squad have led to Germany being under the radar so far in terms of their chances in this tournament.
Manuel Neuer’s last tournament for Germany
Making clear the path forward, Neuer stated his plans to retire from international football for good after this run. “This will be my last tournament for Germany. I’m not planning on playing the Euros in two years. But I want to look forward to every game and not think about a farewell or potential last game,” said the 40 year-old shotstopper ahead of the game against Ivory Coast.
