We’re just over a week out from Conor McGregor’s big return to MMA at UFC 329, where he’s set to face Max Holloway on June 11th. All systems seem go, which is a relief for Holloway, who clearly wasn’t sure “The Notorious” would show up.
In a new interview with MMA Junkie, Holloway said he was happy to hear McGregor sounding so confident coming into their rematch. McGregor beat Holloway badly in their first fight 13 years ago, blanking “Blessed” on the scorecards and even getting one 30-26 from the judges.
Mac is now suggesting that Max hasn’t changed much and is still the same fighter he ‘sonned’ all those years ago.
“Whatever gets him to the octagon Saturday night, keep telling yourself that,” Holloway declared. “Just please show up Saturday night.”
“Conor got the gift of gab, and he loves talking. Maybe he’s talking to get himself ready. I support it 100%. Me, Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway, supports this message. Keep talking. I can’t wait to see you come Saturday night.”
“Him saying I’m not a different fighter and blah, blah, blah, it is what it is,” he added. “Keep telling yourself whatever you’ve got to tell yourself. I just need him to come and show up July 11, and get in that octagon. Then we can find out if he’s right or wrong.”
It’s been five long years since McGregor has competed, and five years of talk that a comeback was imminent. In 2024, McGregor was set to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303, but pulled out just two weeks before the event with a broken pinky toe. A new date for that fight was never set.
We’re two years later and past the two week point, and everyone is still hoping Conor McGregor turns up. Including Max Holloway.
