This evening, Thursday Night Football brings one of the biggest games on the entire 2025 NFL schedule. Tonight’s game between the Rams and Seahawks could end up deciding both the NFC West division title as well as the race for the #1 seed in the NFC playoff race.
These two teams are tied for the top spot in both the conference and the division at 11-3, with the winner taking a critical one-game lead with two weeks to go in the season. If the Rams win this game, their lead is effectively up to two games,
as they would have swept the Seahawks in the season series and would hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Green Bay Packers fans will have close eyes on this game as well due to the potential for playoff seeding implications. The Packers still have a shot at the NFC’s top seed, though they need each of these two teams to lose two of their last three in order to have a shot. That means that Green Bay needs the winner of this game to lose in both weeks 17 and 18, with tonight’s loser dropping one more game in the last two weeks.
Two losses seems more plausible for the Seahawks, who face the Panthers and 49ers in their final two games of the regular season. Those are tougher matchups on paper than the Rams, who match up against the Falcons and Cardinals. The Packers would also need to see the San Francisco 49ers lose at least one of their last three to have a shot at that top seed.
It’s a long shot, to be sure, and any path to the #1 seed requires the Packers to win out over their own final three games. Their focus will surely be on their own matchup with the Chicago Bears on Saturday. But for any fans still holding out hope for home-field and a first-round bye, pull for the Seahawks tonight due to their tougher schedule down the stretch.
