Memphis’ NBC affiliate has a special called Christmas with the King premiering on Thursday. Because this is Memphis, the king in question is WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler.
The channel’s news team spoke to Lawler to promote the special, and to check in on The King after he suffered his third stroke earlier this year. Lawler’s most recent stroke was “minor”, he says. The 76-year-old is still coping with the impact of his second stroke, however — a major one he had in 2023.
In the latest sign the “6-7”
fad is hopefully close to being over, Lawler made a joke about it when Action News 5 asked him how he’s feeling on a scale of 1-10:
“Something I saw on the news recently is people say six or seven. I get up to seven and something happens, I go back to six.”
While showing off some of his artwork, Lawler mentions that one of the health issues he has from the strokes is colorblindness. But pro wrestler that he is, he can’t stop thinking about getting back in the ring:
“I have not put it out of my mind. We have one more match in there somewhere.”
He hasn’t wrestling since his major stroke almost three years ago… but he had a match just weeks before it. Is he just kidding and/or working the Memphis rasslin’ faithful a little ahead of his new special?
Let us know what you think. The full segment with Lawler is below, and Memphis Wrestling: Christmas with the King will be on Memphis’ WMC-TV 5 at 11 a.m. Christmas morning.
