The final month of the regular season is with us. Less than four weeks are left, before we’ll know whether Arizona are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2023. Or if they will be left to press their noses to the glass from the outside, like waifs and strays. At least it’s getting a little cooler. Might not quite hit a hundred degrees as I write, though my suggestion to try opening a window had Mrs. SnakePit looking into whether I could be committed for psychiatric treatment. Anyway, on to the poll!
August results
July was certainly a much better month for Arizona, the Diamondbacks going 15-10, and that fed into the confidence at the start of August. Occupying the second wild-card at that point will tend to do wonders for fan sentiment. Who knew? I mean, at the start of July, there was nobody above a “5”. One month later, three-quarters of people were there. The bottom end basically imploded, i.e. “3” went from 35% to three percent, while at the other end, “7” went from nobody to 39%. The overall impact was a real bounce-back month, recovering all the losses from June to July, and more than a half-point more. The average improved from 3.4 to 6.29.
Below, you can see the breakdown for the past 12 polls’ results, followed by the line graph showing the trends over this and previous seasons.

September poll
You’ll be forgiven for getting whiplash over the Diamondbacks’ results over the past while. We’re so back. Season over. We’re so back. One series, they’ll look like a well-oiled machine. The next, they resemble the Bad News Bears. At the end of August, the Diamondbacks were 5-5 over their last ten, 10-10 over their last twenty, and 14-14 over their last twenty-eight. Yeah, it kinda breaks down at that point, but it basically covered the entire month. Still, considering how pessimistic and gloomy things were looking at the beginning of the month, the fact that we sit in a wild-card spot (albeit by the smallest possible margins), after a 15-14 August, is not bad.
It feels very much like a glass half-full/empty situation. No shortage of drama in August, to be sure. But as we hurtle into the final stretch, what are the vibes? That’s what the poll below is for. And, of course, tell us in the comments why you feel that way, especially if your opinion has changed from last month. Here’s a link, for those on mobile.
