When Bayern Munich signed Sacha Boey from Galatasaray S.K. for a potential €35m in January 2024, there was hope that the Frenchman could establish himself at the club and become the club’s long term solution at the right back position. That did not happen, unfortunately, as Boey suffered many injuries to start his stint at Die Rekordmeister. Even more damningly, when Boey finally enjoyed a run of games without injury towards the end of the 2024/25 season, he barely made it off of the bench.
Things
got a little better in the 2025/26 season as a lot of the other full backs around him dealt with injury issues, but a prolonged gastrointestinal illness curtailed any momentum and kept him out for months. It seemed like things could never go right for Boey at Bayern.
Ergo, Boey went back to where things worked. Loaned back to Galatasaray for 6 months with an option to buy at the very end of the Turkish winter transfer window, the former Stade Rennes player has been in and out of the team but never out for an extended period.
According to Bild reporters Christian Falk and Julian Agardi (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), this could be enough to persuade the Süper Lig leaders to active the buy option:
Galatasaray are happy with Sacha Boey and are likely to activate the €15m option to buy in the summer.
Of course, this information may be a little more reliable if it came from a source in the know at Galatasaray. But there will likely be little pressure to act and therefore little noise about Boey before the season ends.
Ultimately, it is clear that Bayern are not planning with Boey, especially considering the links to Feyenoord right back Givairo Read, and it would be nice for Boey to find a club at which he can play regulalry again. If Galatasaray could be the club to solve both problems, win back a good player and provide the appropriate fee, then all parties will likely be satisfied with a transfer.
Still, the fact that Bayern could let Boey go to his former club for less than half the price they bought him for just two years ago will annoy some people.
