Barcelona have discovered their opponents for the Women’s Champions League’s new League Phase after the draw was made on Friday in Nyon, Switzerland.
Barça Femení will face Bayern Munich, Benfica, OH Leuven at home and Chelsea, Roma and Paris FC away in the competition’s new format, which replaces the old group stage and follows the same format as the men’s Champions League.
This season’s UWCL has 18 teams intead of the previous 16, with each team playing six games, three at home and three away. The
top four in the League Phase standings automatically qualify for the quarter-finals, while teams who finish between fifth and 12th place will go into a Play-off to decide which four move on to the Last Eight.
The two big games in Barça’s schedule are at home to Bayern and away to Chelsea, so both of Barça’s men’s and women’s teams will be playing big European games at Stamford Bridge this season.
The League Phase begins on October 7 and the final matchday will be on December 17, and Barça will be big favorites to top the standings at the end of the League Phase as they look to go one better than last season when the Catalans suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Arsenal in the Final.
