The Atlanta Dream loaded up last offseason, adding Brittney Griner and Brionna Jones to an emerging squad through free agency.
Last season, the Dream had their finest season since 2018, winning a franchise-best 30 games and reaching the playoffs. But the team suffered a tough three-game series loss to the underdog ragtag Indiana Fever.
Well now, the franchise is reloading, and they have now acquired one of the biggest names in the women’s sport.
Angel Reese is now headed to the Atlanta Dream via trade.
The news was first broken by Taylor Rooks, but Chicago Sky reporter Annie Costabile has further trade details:
This is a huge deal (pun intended) for so many reasons.
Reese led the LSU Tigers to a national championship back in 2022-23, cementing her status on the national stage with a huge performance against another big name, Caitlin Clark, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
After being drafted eighth overall to the Chicago Sky in 2024, the 6-foot-3 forward immediately broke rebounding records, averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds across her rookie season. She followed that up with per-game averages of 14.7 points and 12.6 rebounds last season, helping her earn All-Star nods in both campaigns.
From year one to year two in the W, she upped her shooting efficiency (from 46% true shooting to 54% true shooting) and playmaking ability (from 2.9 assists per 100 possessions to 6.1 assists per 100 possession).
Now as a 23-year-old entering her third season, she gets the opportunity to join a Dream squad looking to break the glass ceiling and challenge for a title this year after two seasons of organizational dysfunction in Chicago.
