Former Barcelona star Marc Cucurella has explained why he has decided to join Real Madrid from Chelsea and says he has had “no doubts” about making the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Cucurella has previously admitted he could find it hard to turn down the chance to return to Barcelona if it came up but has since signed on at Madrid for the next six seasons.
The left-back has now given an interview and discussed why he’s agreed to sign for Los Blancos.
“Well, in the end there were different options,
but when the Madrid team came I didn’t think about it, I think it’s a unique opportunity,” he told El Mundo.
“In the end playing for Real Madrid is an honour and not many players can say it, so I had no doubts. I think that both I and my environment, my family, were clear, that it is an opportunity that we could not refuse and I am very happy with the decision we have made.”
Cucurella was also asked what he would tell fans who might not be able to understand why a player who previously featured for Barcelona could sign for their bitter rivals.
“I tell you that life has different stages. In this case, I have had to make an important decision and I have no doubt, I think it is a big step for me,” he added.
“When you’re a kid, you dream of playing in big teams and I think Real Madrid is one of them, it’s the team with the most Champions League in the world and I hope I can win titles with them and have a very nice time.”
Cucurella will join up with his new team after featuring for Spain at World Cup 2026.
