It’s funny how wildly early takes are taken as gospel and made manifest by the public… because things will ALWAYS change. This is, of course, college football. The college football gods do not care about
your takes or your predictions because college football is gonna college football.
Notre Dame is a fun example of that. Just last season we had the Northern Illinois debacle that was going to surely keep the Irish out of the college football playoff — until it didn’t. We’re witnessing that same type of journey this year, and it’s funny to me that after three weeks of football, there were so many out there that burried the Irish.
Last week the USC loss to Illinois was supposed to be a backbreaker to the Irish and their playoff chances, and it is all just too funny. Everyone is so full of shit and terrible takes, and it’s all to fill space or air.
In this week’s AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll, Notre Dame comes in at #16 — up five spots from last week’s set of rankings.

Brendan and I “kind of” called for a bot of a blood week for Saturday, but neither of us had UCLA taking down Penn State (who is still shamefully ranked by the coaches).
The first set of college football playoff rankings will be rleased on November 4, which is an entire month away. During that time the Irish will face the NC State Wolfpack, USC Trojans, and the Boston College Eagles. If the Irish are 6-2 through those opponents, it’s reasonable to assume the Irish will be firmly ranked around #12 or better with four weeks left to go.
Rememeber… college football is going to college football. It’s inevitable.
