Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany understands that a game before an international break can be a challenge. As some players face a “getaway”, the coach is aiming to keep everyone’s eyes on the prize — which is a win over Union Berlin.
Kompany feels like his squad is prepared for what should be a big challenge from Union Berlin.
“We always discuss the opponent’s approach. Schalke and Bodø/Glimt came with a completely different game plan to what they’re used to; we’re used to teams having a Bayern
specific match plan. As a coach, you always need a feel for the game. Union have undergone a transformation. They’ve brought in a very successful coach. The confidence he has will also have an impact on his decisions. No matter what happens, we’re prepared for changes the opponent might make,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
As for Bayern Munich’s injury situation, Kompany indicated that everyone is available for the match, including Serge Gnabry, who has been out since the end of last season.
“We have the entire squad available. Compliments to our medical and athletic departments. Sometimes you have to make decisions [leaving players out], but I prefer that [over having injuries]. We want to keep everyone fit. Hopefully they all come back healthy from the international break,” Kompany stated. “Serge played very well in the number 10 position last season, but he also played on the wing. We waited a long time with Serge until he gave the signal that he felt good. I expect he will get minutes against Union tomorrow.”
