The Miami Hurricanes are slugging one out against idle this weekend and that means fans of The U can sit back, relax, and enjoy the college football slate this weekend. There are six talking points in four
games that Miami fans need to keep an eye on for the remainder of the season. One of those being tonight as FSU heads to Charlottesville to face the Cavaliers in an intriguing matchup.
Florida State at Virginia: Friday 7pm on ESPN
FSU QB Thomas Castellanos has scored six times (three rushing) with only one INT on 15.6 yards per pass attempt so far in 2025. The former Boston College via UCF QB has been reunited with Gus Malzahn and so far the results are pretty… pretty good.
The UVA offense is improved and I’m curious to see if FSU can slow down Chandler Morris, his eight TD’s, and the Hoos passing attack…
Georgia Tech at Wake Forest: Saturday noon on ESPN
GT is a double-digit favorite over Wake on Saturday. I’ve started to notice that when the Yellow Jackets are more talented than their opponent, Haynes King runs less. That’s a smart move by Brent Key. The QB doesn’t need any more ‘seasoning’ and Jamal Haynes should carry the load, not King.
I’m interested to see if GT can score 10+ against the Demon Deacons without King on the ground. The offense is built around motion, shifts, and different option plays involving King.
Duke at Syracuse: Saturday noon on ACCN
I’m not concerned about Manny Diaz and his Duke squad as much as Fran Brown and the Syracuse Orange. Miami shouldn’t see the Blue Devils this season but the ‘Canes will host the Orange in November. SU starting QB Steve Angeli is out and backup Rickie Collins will be thrust into a starting position. Can the offense keep rolling under Collins? Miami couldn’t stop the ‘Cuse passing attack a year ago with Kyle McCord behind center.
Louisville at Pitt: Saturday noon on ESPN2
There’s a lot of future Miami opponent action in the noon slate on Saturday, September 27th. The Louisville Cardinals will face the Pitt Panthers, with Pat Narduzzi’s squad as a slight home-dog. Eli Holstein has already thrown nine TD’s in three games, very un-Nardawg like.
The Cards offense still has Chris Bell and Isaac Brown, but Miller Moss so far isn’t quite up to the Jack Plummer or Tyler Shough success rate for Jeff Brohm.
The Wrap
It’s nice to be able to sit back and watch college football without having to worry about the Hurricanes game this weekend. There are huge matchups for all of CFB with Oregon at Penn State and Alabama at Georgia both at 7:30pm eastern.
USC and Illinois play a ranked game at noon, LSU and Ole Miss face off at 3:30 along side Indiana heading to Iowa at the same time. Miami’s sights have to be set on finally winning the ACC long before a playoff run. We’ll see a lot of the ‘Canes future schedule at noon and know plenty before Brian Kelly and Lane Kiffin duke it out midday.
