Robert Lewandowski has been urged to join Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window after his contract with Barcelona expires.
The 37-year-old’s future remains uncertain ahead of the final games of the season, although there has been plenty of talk he will move on and call time on his Barcelona career.
There have been whispers that Atletico are one of several clubs interested in Lewandowski, and the veteran has been urged to follow in Luis Suarez’s footsteps and make the move from Barca to Diego
Simeone’s side.
“In my opinion, this would be a brilliant move. Lewandowski is still a great striker who, despite his age, maintains a very high level and is in good form. His experience, effectiveness, and intelligence on the pitch could be a huge help to Atletico,” former Spain and Atletico star Jose Luis Caminero told Przegląd Sportowy Onet.
“History also shows that clubs can manage players of a certain age very well – the examples of Luis Suarez and David Villa are the best proof of this. This is a place where such players can still achieve success and be very important to the team.”
Barca are currently looking for a replacement for Lewandowski, with Atletico stars Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth on the club’s radar currently.
