It was a collective failure from Bayern Munich that prevented them from reaching the final of the Champions League. Harry Kane’s goal in the 94th minute was a mere consolation as it wasn’t enough to get the Bavarians over the line, losing on aggregate to Paris Saint-Germain.
If Kane’s goal meant anything, it means he’s tied Robert Lewandowski for most goals in a single season in all competitions since the turn of the millennium:
Only Gerd Müller with 66 competitive goals in 1972/73 stands ahead of Harry Kane 🤯 #FCBayern
The Englishman did reach the mark one game slower than the Polish striker (48 to 47) but Kane’s season is not yet done. There are two Bundesliga matches plus a DFB-Pokal final left to be played. It’ll be a tough ask for Kane to break Gerd’s record, but it just goes to show the heights he and the team reached and how invaluable he is to the team.
The former Tottenham Hotspur attacker is also trying to chase down Lewandowski’s 41-goal tally from 2020/21. Kane will need nine goals in two games to break it.
