Four weeks into the season, we are starting to get a better sense at who on Purdue’s schedule is good and who shouldn’t bother packing for a bowl game.
Ball State Cardinals (1-3) Lost 31-25 vs UConn The
Cardinals fought hard to come back against UConn but simply ran out of time. Seems like another rough season is in full swing for Ball State.
Southern Illinois Salukis (3-1)
Won 59-31 vs SE Missouri State
Southern Illinois only has 1 loss on the season and that was in Ross-Ade where they looked competitive. They rank among the best FCS teams so far this season.
#25 USC Trojans (4-0)
Won 45-31 vs Michigan State
Jayden Maiava looks like the most impressive QB in the Big Ten thus far in the season and the Trojans are rising each week.
#24 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1-2)
Won 56-30 vs Purdue
Notre Dame took out their frustrations against Purdue and fired on all cylinders on offense. The defense is really struggling though.
#8 Illinois Fighting Illini (3-1)
Lost 63-10 at Indiana
I said this game should be good TV. I was absolutely wrong as Illinois got cakewalked in Bloomington. Queue up the choking memes and everyone questioning if Illinois is actually any good.
Minnesota Golden Gophers (2-1)
BYE
Minnesota got a bye week before taking on Rutgers at home. But the bad news for the Gophers is that Cal, the team they just lost too, got destroyed 34-0 against San Diego State this week.
Northwestern Wildcats (1-2)
BYE
Northwestern also had a bye this week, but the Wildcats will seemingly fight against being the basement dwellers of the Big Ten when they host UCLA.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-1)
Lost 38-28 vs Iowa
The first blow to the metaphorical scarlet armor comes at the hands of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Any conference team that allows Iowa to score 31 points on offense should be relegated.
#21 Michigan Wolverines (3-1)
Won 30-27 at Nebraska
Credit to Bryce Underwood for not losing the game but the star on the Michigan offense was once again Justice Haynes. The Wolverine defense hung on just enough to get out of Lincoln with a victory.
#1 Ohio State Buckeyes (3-0)
BYE
How will this Buckeye team react to their trip to Seattle this week. Hopefully the players got some good rest during the off week.
Washington Huskies (3-0)
Won 59-24 at Washington State
Yes, the Huskies won by 35 but this was a 7-point game into the 4th quarter before Washington scored 3 touchdowns in under 3 minutes thanks to two WSU turnovers. Washington can be a sneakily dangerous team the rest of the way.
#19 Indiana Hoosiers (4-0)
Won 63-10 vs #8 Illinois
Wow. An absolutely dominating performance for the Hoosiers as Illinois simply broke. Indiana likely shut up a lot of doubters, perhaps myself included, but it also has to be said. Is Illinois just bad?
