The Syracuse Football team had a bye, but there was a lot of Orange sports action last week. Let’s recap the week that was for the Orange Olympic sports.
Field Hockey (6-2, 1-1)
The Orange opened ACC play with a 3-0 shutout of #9 Virginia. Jesse Eiselin got the shutout while Sammie Goin, Aubrey Turner and Karsin Beatty were the goal scorers. Syracuse was unable to get the weekend sweep as they dropped a 4-2 decision to #3 Wake Forest on Sunday.
The Orange will be back on the road at Duke next Friday.
Ice Hockey (2-0)
Syracuse opened up Brian Idalski’s head coach tenure with a weekend sweep of Stonehill. The Orange won 3-0 and 4-1. Ava Drabyk was in net for both wins and Jackson Kinsler’s two goals paced the Syracuse offense.
Syracuse opens AHA conference play next weekend at Mercyhurst.
Women’s Soccer (4-5-2, 1-3)
Syracuse finally broke their scoring drought and got an ACC win with a 2-1 victory over Pittsburgh. Farrah Stephens-Martin tallied the winning goal in the final minutes to lift the Orange. Abby Incorvaia scored Syracuse’s other goal and Maya Naimoli made 8 saves to secure the win.
The Orange will head to Virginia to face the Cavaliers next Saturday.
Volleyball (5-6, 0-2)
Syracuse opened ACC play with 3-0 home losses to Louisville and Notre Dame. Kiernan Stamey led the Orange in kills over the weekend as the team falls below .500 on the season.
It won’t get any easier for Syracuse next week as they will host #5 SMU and #2 Pittsburgh.
Men’s Soccer (7-3, 1-2)
Syracuse got a huge road win over #10 Notre Dame on Friday night. Juan Martinez-Bastidas recorded his 5th clean sheet of the season and Ivan Irinimbabazi tallied the lone goal to get the Orange a massive resume booster. It’s the 2nd road win over a ranked opponent for Syracuse this season.
Syracuse will host Pittsburgh on Friday night.
Cross-Country
The #9 Syracuse men took 2nd at Princeton behind #4 Alabama. Benne Anderson was the top finisher for the Orange, taking 3rd in a time of 23:11 for 8k. Ben Gabelman (10th), Connor Ackley (13th), Connell Alford (19th) and Louis Small (23rd) rounded out the top five.
In the women’s race, Syracuse finished 5th behind Alabama, UNC, Providence and Duke. Keira Rogan was the Orange’s top finisher coming in 7th with a time of 19:58 for the 6k course. Jayden Harberts (26th), Carmen Luisi (27th), Gretta Johnson (41st) and Maisie Burns (53rd) were the other scorers for Syracuse.
Syracuse’s next race is at Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute on October 16th.
