The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Indianapolis Colts in Week 9 off the strength of six takeaways, which the offense turned into 27 points. The Colts tried to make a late run, but a late interception
from Daniel Jones to Joey Porter Jr. sealed the win for Pittsburgh. Ahead of that, though, the Steelers did give the Colts a chance to make an improbable comeback.
Wide receiver Roman Wilson tried hurdling a defender, which led to him fumbling the ball and the Colts recovering. Head coach Mike Tomlin called the play “bone-headed” in his Tuesday press conference, but offensive coordinator Arthur Smith reiterated that the Steelers aren’t giving up on the Michigan product.
“Those are tough lessons to learn,” Smith said via Alan Saunders. “Sometimes, adversity can be your best teacher. …. You don’t give up on guys. That’s trust.”
Wilson has nine catches for 114 yards and one touchdown on the season. Many have high hopes for the former third-round pick in terms of him becoming a focal point of the offense. While anything is possible, it is fair to point out that those don’t seem like the plans Pittsburgh has for Wilson at this point.
